Well the programs tha are all in one usually suck. For the best results your gonna need a decrytper, converter/encoder and a burning app.
Now for the Decrypter I suggest DVD Decrypter. TMPG Encoder, Would be #1 for the Encoding to VCD As for burning Nero does a super Job. ![]() Hope that helps you out.

Well I think there is a DVD2MPG program but there GUI's usually suck and the results aren't always great. check out www.dvdrhelp.com and browse their Software.
I'm sure you'll find something there.

I used DVD2MPG first time i wanted to use vcd but i always had problem with syncing the audio to the video. I remember the audio was off like 5 sec's that ruined the movie. Though it beats re-encoding a whole video. As for programs use what RazorBlade recommened, i never had a problem using those exact programs. Or you could get a RealTime video card to cut time and waste alot of cash.

INCA is right.
The all-in-one apps stink. They never do a job as well as doing it yourself. It may take longer but the results are always much better. Plus the programs I listed are free. TMPG you have a trial for, and nero you can download the demo which has all the features. While DVBD Decyrpter is totally free.So not one penny is wasted. If you want to have good results you are gonna have to work at it. And beleive me, with all the tutorials on the internet it can be pretty easy.

For SVCD Tmpeg can't be matched...CCE is also good, but requires a little more inginuity and becomming adept with using avisynth scripts...There are also tons of all in one apps but none of them are worth looking at. BTW, VCD is Mpeg 1, So before you get along to far, make sure you convert mpeg 1 for Vcd standard. Svcd is mpeg 2 and requires less conversion, but generates a bigger file size. Oh and one other possibility, dunno how it works for svcd as I never used it for that, but give rempeg a try, it transcodes the video. so bassically you can turn a 4 gb dvd into a 1.3gb Scvd (It has the option of 480*480/576 svcd and 352*480/576 half D1)
Personally for the time it takes and all, I broke down and bought a dvd burner..at the time, about 6 months ago for my current one it was $140 for a 4x Dual (-r/rw and +r/rw) and a Pioneer (A06) so I think I got a pretty good deal....and I no longer have to send time converting anything...Dvd2one takes 20 min or less to turn a 7gb dvd into a 4.3gb...or my perfered Dvdshrink, takes 1 1/2 hr's for a deep scan downconversion... |

I don't use tmpeg unless I want to merge seperate video and audio for one of my projects. I prefer Boilsoft Avi to VCD Converter. It can convert a 25 min avi to mpg in about 15 minutes.
