Don't ask me, the version I have doesn't even have the gecko option. I just treat it as an improved version of IE. Whenever I need to check a page to see how it looks in IE, I fire up MyIE2. I never use plain IE at all, and I never use MyIE2 (or any other such frontend (such as avant (formerly operaIE or IEopera or some such), crazy browser, or inet tabs)) except when I need to check a page.
For me, it's between firebird (the previous version of firefox) and k-meleon. Firebird/fox has more features, but k-meleon is faster. I also like the fact that k-meleon can read/write IE favorites, mozilla bookmarks, and opera hotlist.

The problem is that it is too much bother rebooting into Windows just to check a page.

been a loyal phoenix/firebid/firefox follower since 0.3, mozilla is nice too and i use it also. i dont have opera experience but i didnt like the default theme very much (yes i know you can change it). lynx or links for console browsing and thats pretty much it.

Check this thread for info on gecko for MyIE2. http://m2.overseasky.net/forum_posts...16472&KW=Gecko

File>New Page>Use Gecko Engine

Arg, the gecko engine wont open links in new windows at all :| Personally I see no differnce or speed.

Edit: Ok, after restarting it, it switched my homepage to http://home.netscape.com/, then it logged me out of ngemu, and the content filter dosnt work.

well i downloaded what they said, and enabled it...and then i saw a post that said this:

Quote:
Several bugs are already obvious using the Gecko Engine after a few minutes:

1. Content Filter/Popup Filter does not work with it, if any MyIE features...
2. Right-click menu has no options to save images, etc./very sparse
3. Using Page Down/Arrow keys does weird things (maybe just my sys...)
4. No GUI-based Config to setup options, only confusing list using about:config
5. Sometimes links do not open, pages don't load, etc.
great...

EDIT: well. gecko engine sucks. it loads pages all weird, content filter doesnt work, cant use tabs with middle click, my tab button doesnt work, and all the backgrounds that were white (i.e. this box im typing in or the search at Google) are dark blue. weak. all you people that said use gecko engine....why??

oh yeah, and the "reply post" thing from ngemu is screwed up too...the smileys go off the page. good job gecko

That's exactly the point I was trying to get across and the precise reason I use the IE engine.

I'm actually finding this humorous. All I said was that people will use whichever browser they prefer and stated my choice, which is IE. It seems that's all it took to send the Gecko zealots into a frenzy.

I mean, seriously...this is a browser we're talking about here. It isn't a life-changing decision.

I tried Gecko and it was nothing special. I experienced the same issues as hushy, which just goes to show that it has rendering flaws as well, only I found that I experienced them more often than when using IE. It just didn't cut it for me. Oh well...get over it. God forbid, I use software coded by Microsoft. If all my hair falls out, my girlfriend leaves me, I go bankrupt, my family dies, and I become sterile all from using IE, then I guess that's my problem.

Exactly. I love MyIE2 as it has a whole wack of features not available to me in firefox. Mainly the content filter. As for speed, it doesnt seem slow, maybe because the gecko engine displays the page as it is downloaded, unlike IE where it downloads the page, and then displays it when it is near completion, then loads whatever images it has left to download.

I switch browsers every time i reinstall a OS, ie; i'll use MyIE2, but then i'll use Phoenix/Firebird/Firefox, then the basic Mozilla build (it's what i'm using now) then the regular IE, Opera, etc.

Gecko ownz j00. I'm dead serious

FireBird for me. Thunderbird as my Email client, both in Windows and Linux.

Don't blame it on the lizard. The gecko engine itself works fine (it's what moz, firebird/fox, k-meleon, netscape, konqueror, beonex, and most other browsers use), it's just myie2's implementation that's buggy. Most likely it's due to the active-x aspect, or perhaps a conflict between the active-x component and your security settings.

If you want to see how the gecko engine performs in a proper application, tryout K-meleon http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/download.php It's only about 5megs.

Agreed. IE6 is to Firefox as Netscape 4 is to IE6.

indeed..... I just have to say that lynx is the best and fastest browser around... and gets rid of all the crap pages have...... CLI is the way to go!!!!

now seriously.... if it wasn't cecause it cannot display all the pages (like hotmail), it would be the best browser around

I have to agree with flymouse. Gecko renders pretty much any page perfectly.

I'm using MyIE2 right now and it's the best browser I have used.

Better than Modzilla. Better than Opera. And better than IE 6.
