Virus: W32.HLLW.Gaobot.AO

I dont have this lame virus, but a computer I am *trying* to fix has it.

The computer is WinXP Home + SP1 Integrated. Ive tryed everything on the symantec page. Has anyone had this damn thing, and any tips tricks.

Ive tried safemode and deleted every possible trace, be it registry or actual file. I removed startup entries etc. Everytime I try to open any program it just closes.

Try making a DOS boot disk and deleting it from there.

Re: Virus: W32.HLLW.Gaobot.AO

well thats also 1 way... the problem in the panda scan is that it'll delete the file immediately...

so if the infected file is system32 files... bye bye windows

Isn't XP suppost to secure system files? Forget what it's called. You could also try copying a windows file from another comp to yours. Or maybe I could send you it.

Ok, finally got trend-micro's "HouseCall" to fix it up. I had most of it cleaned before, but symantec didnt list one of the variant exe's the virus spawned itself as.

House call? Oh, you mean the online scanner? Is it fast? But more importantly, is it free?
