*Moved to Software Discussion*

disable the winxp firewall and install a 3rd party firewall. the built in firewall sucks.

and none of those services are firewalls

Re: Are any of these a firewall

If you are using a shared internet connectionn than you usually have to set those types of progras to passive mode to get them to work correctly.

You might be behind a NAT, a connection that uses one external IP to the internet for all computers on the network. This inadvertently acts as a firewall.

For some programs you can set them so that they can properly work behind a firewall. Most games however do not have this capability, you must forward the ports used by these programs to your internal IP on the network. I don't know how to do that on ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) if your internet server is running on Windows. http://support.microsoft.com/ Might be of help.

Re: Are any of these a firewall

also, if you have a router, you'll have to disable the firewall inside it using the configuration screen. To get to your configuration, go to either http://192.168.1.1/ or http://192.168.0.1/, or google up your router's name for instructions if those dont work.

And downloadable software firewalls like sygate or zone alarm have a very high degree of customization, so you'll never have any problems connecting to things. They're ideal for broadband connections.

Else install SP2 and use Microsoft Security Settings
