As the title says, is there a better way to detect if my hardware is defective or not instead of taking something out?? Right now I can't figure out why my whole system just goes into black screen crash & freeze once every 24+ hours. And it has nothing to do with the individual programs....
Instead of pulling out one hardware piece after another I want to just scan to see if my cpu, ram, video card and other hardware whether they are defected or not.] Athlon xp 2200+ 640 sdram 128mb gf fx 5200 creative sound blaster live 50x cd floppy drive 20gb master hd 40gb slave hd 365W enermax psu cpu temp: 55 C system temp: 45 C |

Re: Is there a program that detects hardware failures??
For that system, the temps seem a little high. Also, you have a enermax PSU, which are known to crap out every so often. Try AIDA32 or another PSU.. that is TRUE, unlike Enermax PSUs.

Prime95's torture test for CPU, motherboard and PSU (run overnight).
Memtest86 for memory (run for a few hours). 3DMark2003 for graphics card (loop for a few hours). For hard drive testing get the diagnostic tool from your drive manufacturers site and run the longest test it has. Of course, if Prime95 has an error (and Memtest86 doesn't) you will still need to work out whether its the CPU, motherboard or PSU. |

Re: Is there a program that detects hardware failures??
Just out of curiousity..how sure are you that individual apps aren't the problem? Hey it could even be a prob with windows itself. What version of windows are you running?
And I don't think it's the PSU. If there's a fault with it, your puter would prolly shut down/restart.
