how do i uninstall winxp?

that's my question, i've looked in microsoft's website with no luck. can someone help me?

I think the only way you can do that is to reformat but then everything on your hard drive is "erased".

i dont mind to reformat actually, the problem is that i can't. with old winme, win98 etc i formated from msdos, but since i cant get to msdos from winxp except for msdos prompt, i can format.

Use the recovery counsole from the bootup Windows XP CD. It should have the same commands and switches as in the MS-Dos version

Ok, here's your options:

Insert Windows 95/98/ME CD (bootable) or bootable floppy and run fdisk to remove the partitions. Then add partition(s) and make sure they're active.
Insert XP bootable CD and format the drive(s) as part of the installation process.

From either of these points, you should be able to do whatever it is you're trying to do.

If nothing else helps, get a copy of Knoppix (a Linux distro booting from CD-Rom), open a command line windows ("konsole") and start "sudo fdisk /dev/hda". "m" should give you a list of available commands, you will probably need "d" and "w".

It all depends. If you did just the upgrade you can uninstall XP and it will be fine. But if you have the full version/or new install than you have to reformat.

just do a new install of window's xp and it will let you delete your partition that you installed your old xp on then write a new one.

Boot from the WinXP CD, and the installer will let you erase partitions and create new ones.

Which is probable what Valcrist meant, but I was just clarifying.
