kazaa download problem

hi,
i am in trouble.i downloaded 700mb movie file off kazaa using a 56k connection(imagine the time it took to download).after the completion of download it's download file did not change to .avi extension.yes the download is complete.but it is still giving me the .dat format which kazaa uses while downloading any file.and this file is not playable in any player (i tried windows media player,Gdivx and many others) except avi preview which is available with kazaa.but in avi preview the whole movie can not be seen because i think there is a glitch in the movie.the length of downloaded movie is near 1:20 hour.and avi preview plays only 28 minutes of it.what should i do?i tried to encode it into avi format, but again encoding stopped due to that glitch.so any way to turn this file into avi format?

thanks in advance

Re: kazaa download problem

about the dat showing instead of the avi extension
you can change it by renaming the file to .avi instead of dat.
there was a program to fix avi but I dont remember the name of the program pay a visit to download.cnet.com
or vcdhelp.com

You can also try divFix from http://divfix.maxeline.com/ to strip and rebuild the index

Re: kazaa download problem

You have to turn off the option hide extension for known file types in the folder option.

Open Windows Explorer, go to view > folder options.
Under the view tab turn off the option.

Now rename the .dat files to .avi or .mpg

Another way is to use the open with command.

Select the file, hold shift then right click, choose open with. then choose windows media player or any other media player.

Hope that helps.
