Re: Win98SE in 8mb???

Hell yeah. Too bad it's not freeeware.

Case in point: I recently put together a PC for my Grandma out of some old parts; a K6-2/400, 64MB RAM, and an 800MB HDD. I figured with a minimal install of Win98SE I would have no space problems... yeah, right. I installed: Win98SE, Mozilla, and OpenOffice.org 1.0.3. Seemed to be running just fine. I tried installing printer drivers, and there was no room on the HDD.

*Sigh*

The makers of EOS are http://www.litepc.com/. I might just have to buy 98Lite Pro for my Grandma's PC... and XPLite for myself. Or pirate them. But I didn't just say that.

Damn... have you tried Windows 95? I have installed it using less then 60Mb's. Plus it's hella faster then 98 on older hardware. The only thing it lacks in my opinion is proper USB support.

Re: Win98SE in 8mb???

Very interesting. A small windows like this is useful for offices, like the one where I work (of course not in my computer ).

But how functional is Win98 in that state?

From the screenshot it looks like Win98 is running in 256 colour VGA graphics mode only.

Re: Win98SE in 8mb???

To me it looks like 640x480 256 colors (like safe mode). I should get that for my comp since I'm running out of hd space .

Re: Win98SE in 8mb???

From what I see this doesn't run from a hard drive but rather a fixed piece of memory.
If this is the case would you not have to have all the drivers for your hardware ready, I guess this is why they can charge for something like this, you send them all your system specs and they create the custom chip.
