Winamp 5 .......coming this summer?

Just spotted on winamp forums this thread, started by Nullsoft team itself

Winamp 5 is said to have the best of 2 and 3 ( 2+3=5

) ,....I find this quite interesting :P

seriously; winamp 2.x is already quite good; not much is needed atm, IMO....

Yep, i've heard in a couple of days ago that nullsoft is quitting winamp 3 and focusing on winamp2, they promised to bring the skin style of 3 to 2 (confirmed on the thread), they say the reason is that the public prefers the 2 (because it's faster).

Yeah, winamp2 plugins are different than winamp3 plugins (which are refered as "wacs" ). Unlike winamp2, you cannot configure those plugins in the preference menu on winamp3

The only good thing about Winamp3 are the skins.
So I still use Winamp 2.x
Let us wait and see how "Winamp 5" comes...

I hope it dosnt go shareware or something like fraps. Thats just lame. It does sound like it tho. It looks like they are heading toward the MusicMatch Jukebox type software.

Nullsoft developers get their pay packs from AOL Time Warner and this is why Winamp 3 was so crappy. The parent company were tired of waiting and so pushed Nullsoft to wrap things up and release much earlier than they wanted to. However, they stuck with the public and continued their work on Winamp 2.

As the only thing I really see of winamp is the playlist editor in "minimised" view, I doubt i'll upgrade to Winamp 5 just for the skins. Time will tell.

I wouldn't upgrade my winamp to v5, it would just take alot more memory than before, that's all

I dont really use the skins .. if they will go pay on this , ill prolly drop winamp . especially when there are other good players out there for free ...

(btw: finalight banned ?)
