Unhappy Dynamic volume resize

Hi Folks!

Could anyone tell me how to resize dynamic drive, created by Windows 2000? I am running very low on space on my system partition and that is a big treat right now. I own PQ Partition Magic which refuses even to recognize my volume. I wrote to PQ support several times, but no one was listening.

Please, advice. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Mike

Re: Dynamic volume resize

I havn't personally worked with dynamic drives but i think you might be able to do this through the computer management console. I have WinXP so i can't recall where the admin tools are on win2k but mine are in control panel.

Re: Dynamic volume resize

Well if it's your system drive, you are probs outta luck. PQ Magic does not wanna know about these dynamic volumes (which seem to have no purpose anyways) and you won't be able to perform any actions on a volume that is in use by the system within Windowss anyway
Your best chance is to see if you can do it in Disk Management.

I had exactly the same problem.... Hopefully I made a PQDI before upgrading to those useless Dynamic Drives... and I was able to restore an Image without DynaDrive instaled.
I tryed almost everything in my knowledge and even Microsoft sayd it's impossible to go back....

My luck was because I always separate my "System" HD from my "Prog" & "Data" HD.

Re: Dynamic volume resize

Dear Viperx25,

Thank you for your post, much appreciated.

Unfortunately there is no way back using the Disk Management console. Microsoft says that they do not offer such a solution either. I have found that Paragon offers Partition Manager which can convert my drives back to basic and resize the partitions. I have emailed their support and they immediately replied in positive. Well, I will buy it and let you know what happens. At least, their support team is not like as PQ's - it seems everyone died there.

Thank you again!

Re: Dynamic volume resize

Dear Lord Kane,

Disk Management failed to do convert them back and Microsoft does not offer such a solution. What a surprise! Well, I really hope that Paragon Partiton manager will do what is promised. I do not trust it too much, but this is the only way left...

Thank yor for your fast reply and interest in this matter.

Question Re: Dynamic volume resize

Dear chp,

It seems there is a solution... please, see my answers above. I will try it and let you know what happens. At least support team claimed that this is possible and they promised a refund if that fails. I will backup most of my critical data and try the conversion - really hope that will work.

Keep in touch!
