They both use Internet Explorer, right? What is the point then?

I say much better to use Phoenix/FireBird, Mozilla, or Opera.

Because it renders the page using IE, which is accurate (most sites on the web are designed for IE), but MyIE2 uses a different pipelining method or something which allows it to run considerably faster that IE. It's also low resource usage....
I used Mozilla, Pheonix, Netscape, and K-Meleon and always come back to MyIE2

If a web site requires IE, it's broken, 'mmkay? Email the author and explain the problem.

As far as any sort of standards go, the Gecko engine is vastly superior to IE. Hell, IE doesn't even do PNG properly.

IMNBASOTIHO, the web will be a much better place if everybody stops using IE. And MS is going to have to do a lot of work for the next version of IE to change my mind.

>>If a web site requires IE, it's broken, 'mmkay? Email the author and explain the problem.

Many websites were designed for IE in the first place, since most people use IE. Ever notice the little "this page was designed for IE x.0 and higher" messages at the bottom of webpages? I'm afraid webpage authors are not going to tweak their pages so third party browsers will work.

>>Hell, IE doesn't even do PNG properly.

I can view png images correctly with IE. What problems are you having? Could you post a screenshot?

>>The web will be a much better place if everybody stops using IE.

Why don't you like IE? Sure, it does not have many advanced features, but it was designed to be simple and user-friendly for the average computer user. It may not be the fastest browser out there, but it's not the slowest either. IMO, it's a fairly good browser, and I can't understand why you think it's such a piece of crap.

Anything with variable alpha levels looks butt-ugly. IE only supports single-bit alpha. I'm in Linux now, but I'll post a screenshot when I get home from work.

1) IE is rather crashy. On WinXP it is far better than Win98, and even Win2K, but it still crashes more than is even remotely reasonable.
2) IE is chock full of security holes. Even if you secure it right, it still has some problems
3) IE is Windows only. The Mac version doesn't really count; it is a completely different browser, just with the same name
4) Microsoft has consistantly flaunted just about every W3 standard, never fully implementing them, and adding proprietary extensions. It wouldn't be so bad if they propsed their extensions for the next versions of said standards, but that doesn't happen.
5) Um... I had to take a tech support call and lost my train of thought. :P

I used to want to work for Microsoft. But, quite frankly, over the past few years, MS has really started to scare the **** out of me.

I use and promote their technologies as little as possible. I pray somebody has the bones, and the technical knowledge, to sue their asses off, and give them penalties that mean they have to do something other than change the wording of a few things in Windows.

>IE is rather crashy. On WinXP it is far better than Win98, and even Win2K, but it still crashes more than is even remotely reasonable

What? Not even once in the 2 years I've had XP installed is crashy?

>IE is chock full of security holes. Even if you secure it right, it still has some problems

Anything that is popular will have security holes exposed. If 90% of hte world used Linux instead of Windows and thus the opposing browser, we'd have the same arguements the other way as hackers and phreakers will target that which is popular. Plus most sensible people use a firewall.

>IE is Windows only. The Mac version doesn't really count; it is a completely different browser, just with the same name

That's because some of the features are linked to the OS. It sounds to me like you are jealous of it not being in Linux rather than anything else.

>Microsoft has consistantly flaunted just about every W3 standard, never fully implementing them, and adding proprietary extensions. It wouldn't be so bad if they propsed their extensions for the next versions of said standards, but that doesn't happen.

As I understand it, there was a point when just about every site was Netscape orientated. At this time, Microsoft was far more standards accurate, yet displayed fewer pages......

As for the next version of IE, well, from what the IE team said, there won't be any, they'll just keep updating IE6 SP1 (and about PNG, they're working on this). All next Windows will have IE6 SP1 (or won't,it will prolly be made as a separated product/download)

Ahem.... It's my default browser since I installed it. I think the installer set the registry.
Else go to the options, you'll find there the option to set MyIE2 as your default browser.
