DX9.0a and 3DMark '01

Is anyone else not able to run 3DMark 2001 on their PC if it has DX9 installed? I've tried countless times and it only works when I don't install DX9. It's on both PCs 9500 pro and 9700 non pro.
ALso do you suggest I just install DX 9.0a and forget about that problem?

3Dmarks2001 only supports DirectX 8.1, even with the latest patches. If you want to use something for DX9, you have to use 3Dmarks2003

go here for the 3dmark 2001 patch. i had the same problem with it when i first installed 3dmark 2001, and the patch fixed it. it works perfectly now. i'm running directx 9.0a.

i would install 9.0a just to be on the safe side. your games might run faster or something stupid like that
