DVD player that uses hardware decoder
Anyone know of any freeware DVD players that actually use a hardware decoder if available? I'm getting tired of my Creative Encoure not having full-screen available, and the hardware decoder is the only way I get 5.1 digital sound.

You don't need a hardware decoder for fullscreen functionality. If I'm not mistaken I believe Windows Media Player has support for hardware iDCT.
BTW, what videocard do you have? Only certain videocards have support for hardware acceleration of DVD and MPEG-2 streams.

Oh, that's right, Windows XP needs a third-party DVD decoder installed. Hmm, maybe you can try searching on-line using google. Here's a good list of them from DVD Digest

I have the same, a DXR3 board. searched high and low for a driver for XP. What OS are you running cuz they have a driver for all OS's you can use. They have a product that uses the same chips as the creative card. I currently use that driver and it works great. The player they provide with it enables you to use Dolby Digital 5.1 through AC-3 ouput which is nice and it is full screen too.
http://www.sigmadesigns.com/support/downloads.htm select the Hollywood Plus from the "REALmagic legacy products" list for the OS you have.

Argh
Just tried that software (successfully)... it looks a LOT like the one I'm using, and still doesn't support full-screen . The best I can do (I can do this in the other one too) is to have a 1/4 inch gray border around the movie with the taskbar on the bottom (not in movie, size just isn't large enough to cover it). Anything else out there?
