Software that notifies of updates ?

Is there a program that can notify you everytime an app installed on your comp is updated ?

Or at least that can show headlines from news sites about apps games drivers etc .

I dont know of any prog that do it.
But i can be done. My friend made once a PERL script, well, a full site-portal thing.
It just searched in some others sites, about things he wanted, like "COMPAQ NEWS"(he worked there at that time).
Very nice work.....

IIRC McAffee had a program called "oil change" which effectively did something like that. Not too sure if it's still about though.

which is nice .. but im looking for a more software update solution .
