A University of Calgary professor to teach students how to create computer viruses...

Actually its not sa hard. Everybody with a medium knowledge of programming can make that without problem.

Medium? Doubtful. It needs higer level than that. Except of course if you're talking about script type viruses or VBbased critters...

Otherwise, standard schooling won't get you anywhere. I'm on my last year, but I still won't know crap about writing viruses if I were to base knowledge on what I've normally learned alone, and that's considering I'm an above average computer student.

Virus writing is illegal in some areas, while spreading them is illegal in even more. I dunno if what that prof is doing is OK.

Come to think of it, our school *used* to teach Computer Engineering students some basic stuff...

The article's funny. I believe that you really do need to know how to make viruses in order to stop them. Theoretics isn't enough. This is how hackers are able to strengthen systems. They hack the systems to make them stronger.

heck, if you want to be famous and be catch list of the FBI then by all means enroll there

well the one who made the "I love you" virus is a fellow countryman so those stuff is highly prohibited here...

Supposedly, a Filipino, but I really wonder how far a few Filipino words will prove the nationality of the maker. Heck, I could put German in there and they'd never suspect a non German maker. But I have to admit the filename.txt.vbs thing was neat (was that vbs? or exe?)

Is it really highly prohibited in the Philippines? I know that the incident jumpstarted legislation, but from what I gather, it still lacks teeth.
