so many choices. Start off with mandrake first for linux beginners. Betta wait for when 9.1 gets released soon, unless you want 3 outdated CDs. If you're daring, use Redhat next. I ran into alot of problems with geting mp3 and dvd support for Reddyhat working. I still am using mandrake, and besides those 2 distributions, all the others are crap

yup. it's free

I would wait a little bit for mandrake 9.1, but if you really don't mind it, here's the link:

My personal preference is Red Hat 8.0, but I'm not a huge fan of Linux. Mandrake is also a excellent choice.

ftp://ftp.oregonstate.edu/pub/ftp.redhat.com/

that's an ftp server that i recommend. its fast, unlike .com servers, those are .edu servers and less people goes download from them.

if you want more sites to download form go here:
http://www.redhat.com/download/mirror.html

and i recommend the .edu sites, they are alot faster. and i DO NOT recommend getting one if you do not have broadband access.

Well, ive sampled almost all those, and id have to recommend mandrake for a beginner. redhat is also very easy and looks great and has less issues, but doesnt have as much software. BSD is barebones as is debian, slackware is very nice, but requires experience, and i wouldnt recommend the others.

staroffice is slow and buggy btw. for a fast, nice office suite get open office.

currently I run redhat 8, because when i went to install some kind of linux my slackeware CD wouldnt boot or I would be using that.

for downloads, i use sourceforge as their servers are very fast and i was able to download at a constant 150-170 kB/s.

http://telia.dl.sourceforge.net/mirrors/ copy and paste that link

That's BS. Most chips will fry after less than a 10-20% increase. a 250% increase is a completely baka idea, even without taking into account the difficulties with multipliers etc.

I thought that openoffice used some source code from staroffice before? Since staroffice was free a little while back
