If you later want to convert your movies to any other format I would not recommend xvid.
I had an xvid movie I was trying to convert to SVCD and had no end of trouble.
I had to use the AviC (FourCC changer) to make the converter think the movie was a divx file.
The rule must be if you plan to keep mthe films on your hard drive go with with xvid, for file size and image quality it really can't be beat.
If you want to later watch the film on your TV go with a different option.

yeh have to agree with u db7.. i got some trouble when trying to convert sum xvid files too

I was just about trying to convert one xvid. I have to think twice about it.

XVID, DIVX, WMP9, and many others codecs are NOT the best choice to do Video conversion due to the loss of quality... or use VirtualDub 1.5.x to convert to RGB then frameserve, after filtering to your mpeg1/2 encoder...
