Like any other commercial software Windows XP may be installed on one, and only one computer. If you intend to install it on more than one computer then you must buy another version or get a multiple-user license. Windows XP requires you to "activate" the OS after a set amount of time which requires you to contact MS. They'll know if you're trying to install it on multiple PCs.
The corporate edition of Windows XP does not require activation. So if you want to use it on multiple PCs that would be the best version to buy. I believe using a corporate key will also remove the activation on standard versions.

Assuming you get the corporate edition, yes. Otherwise, no.
Windows XP Corporate Professional is specifically tailored for large corporations who use multiple PCs. It comes with a key that bypasses activation and allows corporate users to install it on multiple PCs. It is also used for hardware labs, where they frequently re-install the OS or install new hardware. I believe (not entirely sure) the use of the corporate edition requires a corporate license.

>>wut do you mean by corporate version??edit: nvm.. so if i get pro i can use it for all 3 of my comps on my network??
that's a no, you need a specific key to do that. Namely a corporate one aka the "FCKGW" key.

I wouldn't reccomend the leaked "FCKGW" key. Using it you will NOT be able to install the Service Pack. I'm not gonna say anything else because Demigod basically explained the whole deal.

if you have one copy of XP allready and want to install it on more then one PC, you need to buy more licence/keys there like 40-60 each after of course your origal disk licence.
so ya eather FWCGK M$(take the G out and change the W to U) , buy the keys, or get a differnt OS like win2k or linux.

"I hate Microsoft" your'e quite right vivrantpig, how dare Microsoft try and stop people pirating and illegally using their software, its not like they've spent millions on developing it and employ hundreds of thousands of people.
Ok! so I'm a sarcastic little git but it really gets on my goat when reading about how people hate Microsoft, if you don't like their products don't use them, its that simple. Don't like Windows, get Linux, many of its Distros are so easy to setup there is no reason for not trying them out and they can be downloaded for nothing. There are countless free Office Suites that can read and save in Microsoft formats, both for Windows and Linux. If you really don't like Bill Gates and Microsoft you really do have no reason to use their programs. |

Hey, you cant put a linux cd in, boot from cd, and install it rite? (not sure abt this, correct me if i'm wrong)
you cant play splinter cell/gta3/emu's etc etc on linux every app (icq, opera, etc etc) has to be redownloaded if you switch from win to lin. Its a hard switch, hey why do you think they call it monopoly?sure i don't like gates, but i like windows (maybe coz i've been using it since i was 6?)

Personally I hate Splinter Cell so using that in a argument with me is a waste of time.
There are Linux distros that can boot from the CD but since you can use DOS to install anything, and for a free version of DOS, PC-DOS is a good choice, yet another free MS alternative. And if you want to run Windows apps on linux get a copy of Wine, you will have to pay but at least your money will not be going to Uncle Bill. Also I love Windows and MS Office, I couldn't live without my copy of ME and Office XP, I just don't like people *****ing about how much they hate Microsoft when they do not have to use MS products. |

Ok, wolfmaster, would you care to elaborate why Linux is so much better than XP? I'd like to hear your opinion on it, in your own words, and not some cut-and-pasted thing.
![]() Maybe that would explain also why you like Winamp3.

DB7:
Bah. If I went and paid $100 dollars for my copy of XP There's no way in HELL I'm letting M$ swipe another $50 for the privialage of installing it on my hard drive. People have a right to be angry at Microsoft. They aren't out to stop piracy in general, they're out to stop what they call "casual piracy" which everyone and his brother did until the advent of XP and Bill Gates still became filthy rich. Casual piracy simply means that I buy their OS/Office proggie for $100 then go home and install my LEGALLY PURCHASED software on three computers. That's not the sort of piracy M$ needs to focus on, and if people were as "informed" about this issue as they are about CDs and the entertainment industry in general, you'd see this activation crap die a horrible, painful, and grotesque death it so richly deserves. Another thing: if, as I've said, Bill Gates has become so stinking rich WITHOUT activation, why start now? Piracy obviously hasn't hurt M$'s pocketbook, the simple reason is he's a greedy creep. The Kan Artist (assuming your the same one from the zsnes board) Have you heard any possibilities ad to when the zsnes board will be back?
