Getting rid of the "Safely Remove Hardware" Icon

I just got a new USB modem and now the Safely Remove Hardware icon will not leave XP's taskbar, since I do not want to remove this modem how do I get rid of the icon, I tried hiding it but hate the little arrow just as much.

if you choose to remove it (using the right-click menu), a dialog appears, and i remember a checkbox there if windows should show the icon or not. hit me if i'm wrong, i'm not sure about this.

Doesn't seem to be there.
This is really annoying me as I have no intention of removing this modem and I don't want this icon in my taskbar, if I don't find a way to get rid of it soon I am saying screw it and going back to ME.
