I guess you can do it, opening the file with either winzip or winrar.

Really depends. If it's an SFX, yes. Otherwise most likely not

I don't have a clue what that means, but I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that if it doesn't open in WinRAR, it ain't gonna open. (which, btw, is the first thing I tried)

The only way you can do that is if the .exe was made in WinRAR or Winzip and the archive was created as a self extracting archive (SFX). And like Kane said, if it isn't an SFX you probably can't get the files out of it. What happens when you double-click the exe anyways?

Like everyone said, there is no way to extract files from an EXE unless is a self-extracting archive (which basically means it's a ZIP/RAR/whatever archive that can be extracted without the need of an archiver installed).

Seeing the behaviour of the program, either you're trying to execute some archaic DOS program/game (best case scenario), or you're now a happy new owner of a trojan/virus (worst case scenario).

There's a program called Resource Hacking which allows you to edit/change/modify the contents of an exe file.

I think you're mentioning self file extractor... if you do, they are already transferred after being executed, most of time the program used is winace or winrar
