apparantly it affects users of winamp too. There are updated versions of both winamp2 and winamp3 available at www.winamp.com

Well, it's good that the problem has been discovered now before anything too serious happened...

Probably does win xp is based on win 2000 unlike win me 98 and 95.

If microsoft can nail us down that easy and we hadn't known about it I'm scared what they are doing when my mouse pointer hovers over the my computer icon

There are a few things that could cause that :

1) You own a pirated copy of WinXp
2) The file wupdmgr.exe might be corrupted/damaged
3) Your firewall won't let wupdmgr.exe do it's job

If none of these apply , then download my copy of wupdmgr.exe (the attachement is in a rar file)

and put it in C:\WINDOWS\system32
Attached Files
File Type: rar wupdmgr.rar (15.1 KB, 28 views)

You could also use the system recovery tool (you do know when the problem occured for the first time right ?)

If so got to the control panel , then select Maintenance (Prestation and Maintenance , or something like that (I'm dutch and sometimes I don't know how to translate it ) And there should be an option in th upperleft corner called System Recovery click on it and follow the options.

If this doesn't work you could use the repair option as a last resort and if that doesn't work contact M$ for further help.
