direct control

just downloaded version 5.5 beta 6 of this software(directcontrrol) and installed it .
Looks like I am in big trouble now. There is no way to safely uninstall this software. I changed few settings then changed them back (there is no reset to default settings option).
Problem is I am not able to run any of my games (including epsxe). All applications seem to be hanging and giving all sorts of weird directx errr messages.

What can I do ? Please dont ask me to upgrade my directx 8.1 as I wont be able to download large files right now. Tomorrow I will try to reninstall direct x 8.1 to see if it helps. Meanwhile if someone can tell me how to safely uninstall this, I will be greatful.

Have U check Add Remove programs in control panel, also check the directory in which U installed the prgram maybe U can find the uninstal icon there. If there is none then U will have to manually delete the files and reinstall directx8

Minor update.

just came back. Problem isnt solved yet.
After some investigation I have come to the concusion that the problem lies with initializing direct sound. Anyway I wasnt able to uninstall that program.
Will try installing dx again now.

Another update.

I uninstalled directx 8.1 using dxbuster and reinstalled dx7.1
It made no difference so I reinstalled 8.1

I guess there must be a software to set dx settings to defaut ?

## My computer hangs when I try running dxdiag or click on dsound or dmusic in directx properties##

I think ur directx installation is corrupted, due to this uninstalling and re_installing of directx, there can be chance that some older and newer version files are conflicting with each other, if you are using windows 9x/ME then try reinstalling the windows without formatting the HDD, this would refresh the directx files, and then again install the new verison of directx.

Hmm,

Reinstalled my windows 98 se without formatting my HDD.

It didnt help.
Btw I thought reinstalling windows would have installed older versions of directx and other windows softwares but they are still the new ones. (directx 8.1 i.e.).

May be I am doing something wrong ?

While while reinstalling, don't select to save previous system files.

I'm not sure if it will do it, but you could try DirectX Eradicator. It's supposed to completely remove DirectX, including registry settings.
