linux emulation- help!
i am thinking of building a linux machine as a general use entertainment machine to attach to my entertainment center for things such as emulation, typing, mp3, moderate net surfing and homemade tivo. however, before i embark on such a journey i wish to know which machines are emulated on linux and how stable the emulators are, because what the point of making a cool entertainment machine if you cant play any games on it.
any help from linux users would be appreciated. thank you |

Both ePSXe and PCSX work very well with Linux. The only reason to stick with Windows would be the rumble-effects not available in Linux. On the other hand, you can define macros with padJoy, something Windows users canīt. Thereīs a lot of other emus, e.g. Mame for arcade machines and Yame for the PC-Engine (and others, didnīt test that) that work very well with Linux.
Plus a lot of emus for ancient home-computers like the C64, ancient consoles etc. (didnīt test them) I recommend a nVidia graphics board, unless you have trustable information that other boards (and their Linux drivers) work well.

Matrox is quite good with Linux too.
SNES emulation is really good on Linux: Snes9x is much better than in windows, mainly because it doesn't have the sucky GUI. ZSNES is better than ever, especially if you download at compile CVS sources, so you can enjoy new stuff without a release ^^ nyaa |
