Virus Scanners in XP SP1

I've just noticed in Windows XP SP1 that a real-time virus scanner hangs the computer sometimes in certain applications. Like ePSXeCutor, for an example. The splash screen stays on for 10 seconds, being unable to click anything in the window. I also noticed this in Nero, Dreamweaver, and WMP9. So I downgraded back to the 2002 version, and it all went away.

It both happened with Norton Antivirus and Trend Micro's engine. Is this actually a known bug with SP1?

I've used Norton Antivirus 2003 and Trend Micro's engine that is used in VCom Systemsuite 4.0 (by the way, it's not Ontrack anymore ) NAV doesn't seem to have it as bad, but it does take a long time for the proggy to reach the taskbar.

Im using NAV2003 PE and have had no troubles. One problem u could be having is with the M$ firewall. Turn that pile off and then try it.

I assume...

EDIT: The reason being that its slowing down ccapp.exe (or whatever its called) from accessing the network. That thing needs to have access to the net in order to provide email/messenger scannings

You could try McAfee VS. It works fine with the XP firewall.

Um, then whats the use of a virus scanner? If you plan to copy files over to that comp via disk/cd etc, then just scan them first on the comp u had them on.

network, the internet. Sorry i didnt mean a LAN (Local area network)

The best virus scanner is PC cillin. Also the fact that it has free updates forever.

I can't believe the people who buys virus protectors that needs for you to pay in order to upgrade.

I actually prefer Outlook Express since it isn't full of extra crap I don't need like Outlook is. I can check my ISP mail and hotmail all at once by opening OE.

So because YOU had a bad experience means that nobody should use it? I think not.
