How to change the file extension in WinXP manually?

yup, how do you do that? I used to rename the file name in win98 and replace the file extension of the file i want manully. Nowdays, whenever i rename a file in winxp, i can only change its name, but not the file extention. Question is, how can i rename a file extention is winxp? ( say i have a .exe file and i want to change it to a .zip file)

As far as I know this isn't possible with Xp.
You need a program that can alter file extensions on Xp.

This is one of the things they should have kept available in Xp IMO.

TOFKAZ, you are sitting in front of your computer right now, and thinking of going to get something to eat.

Yep, It took me a while to find that nifty little option too. I never have it enabled anymore now though.

WRONG , I'm sitting in front of my computer and dozing off into . (Got a job and have to work tommorow form 08:00 - 17:00 , work sucks , stay in school as long as you can) But I'm getting :topicoff: (agian)

But it's nifty option nevertheless , but I will only enable it when I need it.

microsoft made "hide file extensions" because stupid people keeps erasing the file extensions accidentally and it basically screws the file over because they don't know what the extension was before.

it sickens me that ME and XP had that option on automatically.
