Question NTFS query

Heya. I know that if you wanna dual boot 98 and XP (for example), you can't format your XP partition to NTFS, 'cause then 98 won't work. But what if you have 2 separate hard drives? Can you convert C: to NTFS and still have 98 work with FAT32 on your D:? I'm not to sure 'bout that one. Thanx in advance

Sure, why not EFMan? It's just like putting WinXP on an NTFS partition and Win98Se on a FAT 32 partition on the same hard disk.

But, like I told you before, it's best to install 98SE first before XP.

...btw, how's yer sister?

I still think you can't access the 98se hard drive, since it's FAT32, from XP. I think XP has to be FAT32 too to read from 98

She's a'ight. Personal-wise she's become a lot . . . friendlier. Gaming-wise, she's still FPSing. She was disappointed by the UT2003 demo, said the weapons were too unchanged. She's droolin' over Age o' Mythology right now. :eyes:

Wassup w/you? PM me or sumhin' (gotta control the off-topic ).

You got it reversed... 98SE can't read the XP partition, so all NTFS partitions will become invisible there. But XP CAN read FAT32 partitions. It's actually my current dual-boot setup right now.

..and who cares if this goes off-topic? it's your thread anyway, and the question's been answered. Besides, no one messes with the BATARDs... especially one who's part of the original crew.

I guess she's still a fan of FPS games, eh? Has she tried out Medal of Honor or one of those FPS Jedi Knight games?

Fine We're both going through MoH:AA right now. She's beaten it once and going through it again on harder modes. I haven't had time to finish it. But no JKII for either of us. I don't like it, she don't like it.

And you didn't answer my question

I'm mostly fine; right now I'm going over a 5 year relationship that went awry. Going to school, drinking moderately; the usual. Oh, became admin too.

I (finally) got sick of her prissy princess ways and called it quits. There's no way I can live 40, 50 years more like that.

So, in other words, you did have secrets from her. C'mon, what did you do? Tell me. Is it juicy?

Well, for starters I never did tell her about my huge Tokimemo collection.

... I see your point, EfrainMan... this is getting quite FAR from the topic.

Not really unless you compress it.

NTFS is faster, but not hugely. It has less issues with lots of small files (small files on FAT32 patitions use up far more space than they should) so NTFS is more space friendly. Yuo also get copmressions (which believe it or not is still very fast) and better security options.

BTW good to see you about Efrainman.

Check this link out EfrainMan. It is how I run a Dual Boot between 95 and XP Pro. C:\ is XP and D:\ is 95. http://www.bcpl.net/~dbryan/ntfs-dual-boot.html

Yeah, it allows you to have Windows XP on your C: NTFS drive and FAT32 on the other partition or drive. Yes, partitions work too.

What if you use Virtual PC with Win2k or XP as host OS, can you install win98 even if the hard drives are NTFS?

Yes you can. Both those programs can create 'virtual' hard drives.
