First, you cant play backups without a modchip.
To do that you will need one of those expensive DVD writers, of course, and then you can, I think, use a burning program that your writer will most probably include to backup your DVD. That atleast worked with CDs, as I've tried, but DVD's may require more steps or tricks.

he already told how. you need a dvd writer, and itīs not sure itīll work, as dvds are more complicated than cds, specially because there are many types, dvd-r, dvd+r, so on.

Even besides that, DVD burners can only store 4.7 GB of data. If the game disk is of the 9 GB variety your outta luck (unless your willing to make sacrifices).

most probably not... try to find some dvd burners where you can make some copies, and see which work with your ps2, if they work then buy one.

I don't know of a game that is over 4.7 GB, the biggest I've ever seen is 4.6 GB.

Ya and chips are no good for your PS2... If you want to use it for pirate purposes, do as you please, but if you use original games... IMO it's not worth to risk your console with those modchips if you are going to buy original games...

Also you need to get a NTSC/NTSC-J televison to play the US/Japnase games, if you are in the PAL area, vice versa if you have NTSC.

Betamax > you are funny, there are no double layer DVD PS2 games,so normal dvd-r burner is enough for backup of any PS2 game {4.7GB}.You probably meant dvd films, which are mostly bigger than 4.7GB.

ice2hot :
PS2 didnt read dvd+r only dvd-r,remember that, good buy is Pioneer A104.Best chip is Magic 2 or Messiah since they can read everything,of course its not recommended to apply messiah or magic 2 on PS2 V1-V3 since their lasers are weak V4 V5 and up are fine. And best dvd-r media is Traxdata or Verbatim with dark pink {purple} surface. If you buy retail version of Pioneer A104,then it will have Prassi PrimoDVD software for dvd-r burning included.Or you can use Nero also for making dvd-r copies {with Nero you maybe need to set something special to make a good working copy} if you need anything more, then just pm me.I have a link about burning over primo dvd software, besides Pioneer also burn cdr/rw !

spadjr: It's not unreasonable to assume taht games may come out for the PS2 using the entire 9 gigs.
