does anyone else have a problem with xp?

I have an hp pavillion. It was purchased last fall some time, it came with windows xp. and I have so many problems with it, its not even funny any more I can't stand it. I have restart every time I want on the internet, don't think of useing Kazaa or many sharing progams. and the ram usage shoots to 100% half the time. Just a pain in the rump!

Make sure:
a) You have the latest drivers for all your hardware.
b) You have the latest BIOS revision for your motherboard
c) You have installed XP Service Pack 1 and all other Windows Fixes.

Failing that, set the priority of the P2P programs to low using Task Manager.

Futhermore, what spec is your machine?

That's odd, as I had XP running happily on an Athlon 650 w/ 256Mb RAM.

There are a bunch of threads on this forum about which is the best OS...

My computer-tech friend says XP.
I answered that it seems to have many conflict problems, as pointed out on this board.
He insisted it's still a more stable programming architecture, and that those errors are "software problems", not flaws with the OS itself.

Well that may be true, but my computer RUNs software, so that introduces a small problem. :eyes:

I had to reinstall XP a couple of time, since I just like to screw around inside XP. But other than those instances, I've been happy with it

Like I said before I like XP alot. I took an A+ course my sophmore year of high school and got to play windows 98 and windows 2000 profesional. not saying I'm a tech genius but I am a little educated. and after going form windows 3.11 straight to XP (with my home computer). I very much perfer XP to all others. although I've heard good things about linyx. never used it though or seen for that matter.

I really like XP... I use a Pavilion too, and saw in the hp support page that they do NOT reccomend using WinXP on Pavilion PC's. I haven't had any problem though... just had to download some drivers for XP, which I happily found at www.hp.com
My Pavilion has lower specs than yours, i think... I am using an Athlon @800 Mhz, with 128 Mb RAM (updating soon ) And I use P2P programs such as edonkey2000 and winmx. I would reccomend you to visit the web I have shown before, and if you don't find what you are looking for, just email them: they used to reply me in less than one day (!!!!!), and put things very clear to me. That's all.
