Question Geforce2 upgrade, det drivers on XP and other questions

i have a GF2MX400-32mb, and i got from a friend a GF2GTS-64mbDDR|tv-out. actually, its a Hercules -the prophet 2- i think. This one is much better than mine, right??
1)well, i wanna know if i change the card, ill have to reinstall the detonator´s drivers again?? or it will work ok?? im using 28.32, but ill switch to 30.82, as 40.XX still beta. should i use nvidia det´s or the one from the manufacturer??
2)he said the card has a problem. it was heating way too much, he touched it and it was burning, and it crashes a lot.
i was think in putting another coller, a bigger one and also, reducing the CORE clock a little, like 10Mhz to help the colling.
i could increase the MEM clock like 5Mhz to help on performance.

Any comments??

The Gts is way better then a mx400. u should uninstall your current drivers. then turn off the pc and change yor cards. then you should install the latest drivers from nvidia's website. if the card is overheating you should put a heatsink on and see if it helps

I agree GTS should be better than MX400 so you should make the upgrade. Actually 30.xx driver are okay. But you may want to fall back to older ones if you find problems running with certain games: anything later than 21.xx may worth your try.

Wow, what a beauty! My VisionTek Xtasy GF4 MX looks a little like that, but it's a huge nvidia heat sink and fan.

As for using a k6-2 cooler, best be a small one (standard socket7) And not one like mine. It'd probable crush the card.

Dunno, I think you should take the old one off, primarily because it might get in the way of the adjacent PCI slot as well as making the load on the GPU too heavy.

Hercules cards are known to be shipped a bit overclocked (although now they ship with the default reference settings). Try to lower the core clock if it's overheating. The GTS is primarily limited by its slow memory anyways so downclocking the core will have very little effect on overall performance.
