at the microdvd webpage it says

"IMPORTANT:

The new upcoming version 1.3 of the player is currently being sold commercially, therefore download is not possible at this time.

After one and a half year of development it's now time for me to take the chance to make some real money with the player, after all I need to live too. :-) I hope you'll understand this.

The money I'm going to earn will ensure that the project can be continued later, so please wait for further versions to be released. Thanks a lot for your understanding and patience! If you have further questions, feel free to contact me!"

i kinda need it to be free cause i dont have a credit card or really ne job to pay for it and i still want to play some dvds

so are there any other sugestions to the matter

DVD Video (and SVCD) stores video in MPEG-2, which ordinary players can't play. commercial software DVD players come included with the company's own MPEG-2 codec, but i'm not aware of a working freeware one. err, that is: i couldn't use any of the freeware MPEG-2 codecs myself. you should check on these kind of things at http://www.doom9.org (it's the 4th time i post this URL to Emuforums ^_^)

hi!

The Media Player (mplay32.exe) plays atleast the video-files on the DVD itself. So it's without the menu's, subtitles & Co.
And since it only plays the video files, it's without sound.

First install a trial version of any commerical DVD player, this will give you the codecs you need for play back and the codecs never expire unlike the player. Now assuming you have Windows ME or higher (2000, XP), with your DVD title in the drive click Start, run and type "dvdplay" and press ok, this will launch Windows own DVD player. Also now many DVD titles are coming with their own players, I recently bought the Clint Eastwood film "Space Cowboys" and I decided to see what sort of DVD-Rom features it had, one was that I could play the film without having any other DVD player installed, see if the title you are trying to play has this feature.
Sorry for rambling on but I hope this has been some help.

Ps, Media Player will also play DVD's but may have the languages mixed up.

I believe Windows Media Player has DVD support but only with a 3rd party DVD decoder. I just use PowerDVD myself, I don't know any free ones.

If you use Linux, xine is one of the available free DVD player - with new DVD navigator plugin such that menu and subtitles will be working. There is supposed to be a very early alpha version of xine on Windows, but I have yet to try out.

For Windows, if you use nVidia display card, the NVDVD 1.22 beta is available via Reactorcritical. You may try that out as well. For ATI, it has its own DVD player and multimedia center utility.

I use PowerDVD. It's not without problem, but I find it to be much better than WinDVD, especially in sound and interface.

Anyway, I don't really know any good freeware DVD players. Back in the day I tried a whole bunch, but I always came back to PowerDVD.

I spotted this article at MandrakeForum:

Watching DVDs in Mandrake Linux 9.0
http://www.mandrakeforum.org/article...d=2477&lang=en

Also a category review of Linux DVD Players at freshmeat.net:
http://freshmeat.net/articles/view/568/

If you got a DVD Rom drive plus some DVD movies, check it out and enjoy!
