Windows ME Error

While I started Scandisk, the screen became blue and it says:
" A error has occured.
File error: VWIN32(05) + 00000BF4 Error : 0E : 0028 ; CO299DCC"

What happened?

Service pack? You mean I have to download it from MS's website?
And this problem can be fixed that just doing that?

i think there's a fix for a security hole in winme on microsoft.com, but i don't know if it fixes other things. anyway, your problem seems system specific, a lot of things can be the cause..

I've no luck over www.microsoft.com. No error message listed as I described. No service pack too. In fact, they didn't release WinMe's service pack. Why?

By the way, I noticed a file, suspecting it should be the problem. SHELL32.DLL. What's that file for?

Christemplar:
there _must_ be a security upgrade for WinME, i've seen it on windowsupdate.microsoft.com a few days ago (it's been there since a long time); it's not called a service pack, but you should install it anyway.

I know. But I got this problem: SHELL32.DLL is unable to start. Check the file to determine what problem.

I just don't know what's going on?

JegHegy,
Could you post the link for me? For some reasons I get stuck in there.

OK, here's a new lead. Whenever I press start in Scandisk, there's an error occured in Scandskw and it made the SHELL.DLL closed. Anyone knows the problem?

Edit: Damn it, I found out that I can't open any programs if that stupid SHELL.DLL is closed. Damn it! Somebody help me!

I am not sure but it looks like some conflict.

Similar error occurs if you have more than one graphic adapter. i.e: if you downloaded nVidia driver, check that you don't have the nView program running.

Try disabling some programs (especially antivirus softwares).

Yes, I have the nView. I'm using a nVidia GF2. But how do I disable it?

We have ME and have never experienced the problem you speak of...odd....something is obviously causing a conflict....

hmm...the best way to be sure is a simple one....start your computer as normal....then simply turn the power off (Without doing a normal shutdown)..
Turn the power back on, and hopefully Windows ME will have detected an improper. ME should then automatically run Scandisk ...the benefit to this is that no other programs have been started that may be causing the conflict.

If this works for you then it's just a matter of finding out which program is causing the conflict.....

This is another reason why we disagree with Micro$oft doing away with DOS....running it in the background plain sucks

Anyone out there,
Ok, I went in the control panel and located the nView graphic displayer, but there so much configurations there.... I don't know what to do.... I can't risk to press everything.... I can't afford to.

Dark Watcher,
I done it before, but after scandisk it doesn't starts Win Me, it just freeze there. So I reset it again and press cancel in while running scandisk so that my Win Me will start....

jegHegy,
I was hoping for your microsoft link...

go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com , and choose the "product updates" (or whatever) menu, which will take you a page that lists the available updates for WinME; the topmost download is the important security fix (8 megabytes). that's it, i'm getting it right now.

as for the nview thingy: click the "wizard" button, it explains all the settings.

edit: oh, and sorry about not posting this earlier, i tend to forget things which don't involve girls in some way ^_^!

then what part of your computer works fine, christemplar?? just kidding , I think an important dll. file is missing from your system,..why dont you try to reinstall win ME again,...and if possible, you could try installing XP, since it's more stable than ME and can repair itself at any moment!
