WinXP = ?

A big flaming pile of ****. But thats not the point, the point is that I recently installed XP again, in the process converting my file system to NTFS. All it did was delete everything on my desktop, but now I can't get Nero to run at all. I try to reinstall it (becuase it says its missing a plug-in or somthing) and it tells me I have an older version of Nero still on my HD, so I delete it and it still says I have it on my HD, so it asks me if I want to remove it, I click yes, then it says the uninstall was "inturrupted"..... So I CAN'T GET NERO TO RUN ON MY COMPUTER!!!!! WTF!?

Problem #2

I got the latest CloneCD, v.4. But when I try and use it it gives me this stupid error! WTF!?

P.S. - It's got nothing to do with my ASPI drivers 'cause I installed those 200000x.

Moved.

#1 maybe you need to run a registry cleaner. there might be some left over stuff that needs to be removed from there.

As for #2: It appears to be crashing whenever it automatically tries to disable auto insert notification. You might get around this by doing this manually before running the program. I think the only way you can do that in XP however is via the powertoys.

I think this problem is occurring because Nero is still in the registry somewhere and it says in there that Nero is still installed. As for CloneCD not working, I don't know whats wrong there. if that pic has to do with CloneCD i'm guessing that it was something to do with the Auto insert Notification for CDs. try changing that setting.

If all else fails, back up everything you need and then format your HD, make your it is formatted as NTFS before hand so you don't convert it later on. Then install XP.

Two ways to do this:

#1
- Run "gpedit.msc"
- Go to "Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System", and set "Turn Off Autoplay" to "Enabled"

#2
- Run "regedit"
- Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ Cdrom"
- Set "Autorun" to "0". If you can't find this value, create it as a DWORD.

I'll probably just reformat my HD, but how will I format it to NTFS?

P.S. - Turning Autoplay off didn't help.

Type this command in the command prompt, "format [your drive letter] /fs:ntfs" (without "")

You should do clean installs always if you plan to run XP with NTFS. Everything's more trouble-free that way.

BTW Nero runs flawless in my case. I'm using 5.5.5.6

btw, when you start with a clean install, there will be an option for you during XP Setup to convert the partiton you're installing to to NTFS. You don't need to type in that command.

And why not? it's an empty partition anyway.... better safe than sorry.

Why are some people here allergic to reformatting anyway?

Formatting is the best way to install a new OS. People are probably afraid because they don't want to lose any of their configs or don't have a CD-RW to back up their data

I actually love reformatting reinstalling the OS fresh becuase it runs SO much faster. But when I install all of my crap again, it slows down.

I love formatting too. It makes the OS run at top speed until you load all of your crap and you have less chance of damaging you partition table (I damage my partition table trying to upgrade from 98 to ME, but soon fixed it)

Formatting is a pain in the ass, but I recently got a bunch of CD-RWs really cheap so I backed up my data and formatted, I haven't tried any of my burn apps yet but I will in a little while.

I screwed up my partition table once because I added a new HD and when i tried to install 98, it ran scandisk but it said something like my HD had a lot of errors, so i go to my partition that has all of my stuff (in Dos), it couldn't read most of the partition. Everytime I try to display the list of files in a directory, it said something like Read error on Drive E (that was the partiton). I lost everything, I had to run fdisk and redo all of my patitions. But, now all is well. I have some extra space now (thanks to the extra HD).
