Read Ahead
Everyone here remember being able to change the how much a CD drive reads ahead in windows 98 right. You could limit it so that there was no read ahead. How do you do that in XP? I can't find it anywhere and I even looked in help. Help.

xp is obviously optimised for fast cd drives and so has a high(as high as you'll ever need) read ahead setting as default.
also read-ahead hardly uses any cpu cycles but uses alot of ram(about 750kb in win98 IIRC) since you have 256mb i can't see any reason why you would need to change anything. |
