I need Help for my computer system

last week My computer is losing the a association with a lot of files type like avi mp3 gif jpg mpg and office program and other. and when I return the asscociation with file it's all gone after several minute. . . .



By the way open the file ( for example in time without associated with media player the change to *.exe file and the size reduced to 40 kb no matter what is the size of the file . . .

So can you help . . .

That could possibly be a virus. Windows will never do that much damage

Definetely sounds like a virus. I don't know any programs that remove associations.

I ran the anti virus but no virus found. I try to update the anti virus (Norton 2002)
but no virus found . . .

Hmm . . . which OS are you using? If it's WinXP, it has a nice little repair function if you boot the computer from the install disc.

Unfortunatly it is not win xp
my brother computer is xp
but my computer is old (win 98) . . .

It may not be feasable for you, but when all else fails, you can try reinstalling 98.

This may sound not convincing, but there is a problem with some versions of win98 on dates 25,26 and 27 of April 2002.
My cousin had the same problem. He formatted his HDD and reinstalled Win98. He had to do that twice.

Virus like activity? Only virus could cause that problem.

If is the virus prafull says, anyway boot your computer from a clean bootable diskette and run an antivirus

Hmm... it think it will be a trojan or a software problem, try borrowing ur brothers winxp cd coz it will be a great help if it will happen again u will just use "System Recovery".
