Dual-boot question

I was reading a guide to making a multiboot system and it said that they recommend installing win98 on C: and win2k on D:. Does it REALLY matter? I'm asking because I already have my partitions set and I have 4 GB for Win2k and 1GB for Win98. I can't really resize the partitions cause i have some stuff on another partition and I can't risk resizing the partitions. I want to know if it will work if I install 98 in D: and 2k on C:. I will install 98 first then 2k but I want to use the drive I said before. Can anyone help me out? Thanks a lot!

win9x doesnt like it if you dont install it to the primary partition. you can use pm7.0 to change the name of the partition

Are you telling me that it will not work if I do install it on D: cause a while back I did screw things up and installed 98 on D drive and it worked fine. I'm really confused right now as what i should do.

I remember installing Win98 on D:\Windows too, and it worked fine for a month or so til I decided to reinstall again.

I do hope you reverted to 98SE, or installed XP.

I have a friend who has a Win ME. So, he plans to install WinXP on his pc but wait, don't Win ME doesn't have DOS or something? And I saw how his pc boots. after the pc is on, it shows the logo of the company that he bought his pc(branded pc actually) and that straightaway into the Win ME. I thought any PCs would show the table of infos(RAM, clock speed) and what are being loaded to the system.

Ok, my question is(for those who don't understand what the hell am I'm saying above )
Can Win ME install Win Xp? Thanks for some explanations

Yes it can. WinME was an attempt at removing the DOS layer from the 9X kernel, but it failed quite badly. WinXP can be installed by putting the CD in the drive while in ME, and doing an upgd.

If u install WinXP in a ME OS it will upgrade it i think....but if u install ME again after upgrading...your PC will show a dual boot screen after turnig it on....so u can choose wich OS u will use....

To answer your question 'Snake785', if you still wanna know, YES, you can install Win 98 on the D: because all the important files like 'Autoexec.bat' or 'Config.sys' are placed on the C:, so you can, and it 'doesn't' matter which order you install in. Hope that helps.

Well, thank's a lot for the help. I got a Multiboot running very nicely right now. All I need to do now is make some tweaks to Windows 2000 so I can get it running as fast as I can get to run.
