Question Burning CDs while surfing the web....

Hey. Is it safe to Burn a CD while doing a bunch of stuff in the background (mainly just surfing the web and listening to live radio)? I want to be able to surf the web while I'm burning my CDs so I don't have to wait. I have a Matsu****a CW-7502 CD-R which writes at a max of 4x. I just don't want to have a bunch of coasters (cause CDs cost money!).

You can try, that's only a cd-r you may loose
But, if your computer is fast enough, both drives are using dma, and you does not do something that may get the hd busy for more time than the writter buffer can wait (about 4 secs if your drive has 8MB buffer and you are writting at 12x), then there should be no problem

I just burned a CD and it worked. So, i guess it's safe as long as I just surf the web since it doesn't access the HD all the time. I was also listening to this radio station (using WMP) in the background.

Nowadays you can do almost anything whilst recording... So long as you don't put too high a load on the device from which the data is being transferred from. Far cry from the good old day were if I even breathed on the desk that the pc was sitting on the disk failed.

You can do almost anything, as long as it doesn't interfere with the source too much. I've played games and movies while burning CDs and they've turned out fine (those games and movies were loaded from a network source). My friend even claimed he was able to burn CDs while playing Starcraft.

And it took one hour or more to record a single cd with the 1x speed, huh Beta?
I've seen that time...

Don't remind me :eyes:. I remember the first disk I attempted. Took me a couple of hours to figure out how dao worked, (after spending 2 days trying to get that legacy SCSI card to be recognised) and then preceed to burn a disk... which didn't work. That was $20 wasted.

And I'm sure you tried again, just to prove to yourself you did everything right, eh?

Reminds me of my first burnt CDs. That was just horrible. I was also using Easy CD Creator, which I have since found out to be the worst burning program ever written.
