ATI Catalyst (driver) issue
Hi people! I'm back...kindda... I've got a problem with the driver...a big one! Up until recently I've been using the 9.6 version for my Radeon 4870X2. I decided to upgrade it to a newer version, so I installed version 9.8. After installing it I started getting jumpy shaders and pixels in games like Crysis and Wolfenstein and every time windows is loaded it takes about 5 minutes for the screen to freeze and for the system to crash with a blue screen telling me the driver failed. When I restart the bios screen comes up with two white vertical lines and flashing pixels, and I'm forced to go to safe mode (with a really ****ed up screen the entire way) and restart the computer through the start menu. After this, the problem suddenly disappears until I shut down. Next day I have to do the whole thing all over again. I've tried updating again to the even newer version - the 9.9, but the problem keeps coming back, and with a twist...every new game that I install never loads up - it's as if I can only play games that have already existed on the hard drive before this problem appeared, and even these have glitches sometimes. If any of you have any kind of idea, please tell me. I just have to know whether it's a software problem or a did something happen to the hardware itself.

The freezing and "jumpy" shaders and pixels could be from a driver conflict. Try uninstalling your driver and running DriverSweeper in safe mode, reboot and install the 9.9 drivers again. Other than that, it could be caused by power supply or video card failure. As for newly installed games not showing up, that sounds like an unrelated issue. Could be something corrupt in Windows' registry.

About the games, the driver keeps quiting every time, no errors. Okay, I'll uninstall the driver components and reinstall the driver again...hope it works.

Have you tried increasing the fan speed? Might be a huge stretch but you never know, since it's an X2 part. It's heat dissipation is a lot higher than the single 4870.

Uninstall + DriverSweep 9.9 and revert back to 9.6 to be find out whether it's the card or the driver at fault here. Another negative score for ATI Catalyst, bringing the total down to -150
