Pretty normal since DOS isn't available under XP.(Why do you need it anyway? It's useless).

You won't be able to format that even with a DOS bootdisk if it's an NTFS-formatted disk in the first place.

Yep you can use a Win98 or WinMe startup disk to format an NTFS drive. But first you have to go into FDISK and delete the Non DOS Partition and make a new FAT32 partition. Only then can you format it.

had to do that alot lately (unfortunetly), cuz my cpu got messed up with a virus, then I had trouble with installing Win XP. had to rewrite my hd to zeros and repartition it like three times, and all of those I realized I needed to do that stuff after I put all the backup files back on my cpu. ooooooooooohhhhhhhhh! wat a mess!!!:bash:

My computer is pretty messed. I have been getting blue screens recently with Win2k. Luckily March break is coming about a month and I will have time to redo everything. Then I can make a dual-boot system properly. I might have 3 OS's (Win2k, Win98 and Linux) this time around cause I want to experiment with Linux (and try out epsxe on it to see how it runs ).

epsxe probably woln't run that well (in coparison to how other progams run on linux, but is still probably better running than on windows), at least not for now cuz they gotta tweak it for linux still.

That's odd. Are you sure you created the win98 startup disk correctly? I have Windows 2000 and I am able to use my win98 boot up disk with no problems! Win2k shouldn't be that different from XP so it should work. How did you create the startup disk anyway? Maybe you didn't create it properly

Maybe the disk was created improperly or there's something wrong with it. You should probably try making it again. I have Windows XP Pro and Windows 98 on my FAT32 drive and I can use the boot-disk just fine.

--

FAT(16) - Based around DOS. Can only address up to 2 GB of space. Uses 16 KB file clusters. No security features.

FAT32 - Enhanced version of FAT. Can support large hard drives. Uses 4 KB file clusters, but has to increase the cluster size every 8 GB (1-8 GB = 4 KB, 9-16 GB = 16 KB, etc.). No security features.

NTFS - Native Windows NT file system. Can support large hard drives. Uses 4 KB file clusters, regardless of drive size. Has full security features. Has compression and encryption support.
