Question Question about having two gamepads...

I have two gamepads connected to my computer. One being a Gravis gamepad Pro using the gameport and I have a PSX>USB adapter connected with a psx dualshock controller using my USB port. Now my problem is that when I go to configure my controllers my USB pad its detected as Player 2. I don't want that cause some games dont even have two players and I can't configure my psx pad to work with it. Can someone help me find out how to switch my psx pad from player 2 to player one and my gravis pad as player 1? Thanks

It would make life a lot easier if you told us which game are you trying to play. Anyway, in Control Panel -> Game Controllers there's usually an option to choose a preferred game device, or to re-order the pads (depending on the Windows version).

Well, In FF8 PC, it only uses the first controller so I have to use my gravis pad, I don't want to it for FF8 because I have that controller kinda hidden and I have reach under my computer to get it.. And all of the emus I use are configured to use the first pad. I don't want to keep removing and adding my pad all the time cause it just takes too much time. I want to use my gravis pad as 2nd player because it will only be in use when friends come over. I'm running Windows 2000 and I tried changing the Controller id to 1...it didn't work I used epsxe to test it and it detected it as Player 2. I even moved my gravis pad to 16 but it still detected the psx pad as player 2. I just don't want the hassle of removing the gravis pad and adding it all the time when I play games.

I even reinstalled windows and installed the USB pad first (well, it didn't automatically) and then later plugged in my gravis pad and installed it but no, the gravis pad is still player one.

Gods, I get a really annoying prob like that with my M$ sidewinder freestyle pro. I use my 4 PSX pads first, then my N64 one, and I'd like to use my MS pad as the last, but it always comes first.

Have you guys tried changing the controller ID on the Gaming Options in Control Panel? Works like a charm for me if I want to force a particular controller to be "player 1" or "player 2".

Yes I have and it still doesn't work

Could it be because I am using windows 2000? Or are you also using win2k?

I'm also on Win2k.... and it's worked for me so far. Hmm... too bad I don't have FF8PC to test it with.

Hmm.....That is very odd. I don't get why it doesn't work on my computer and it works on yours. Well, I'll try messing around with the controller IDs again and (hopefully) it will work properly.

What controllers do you have on your system?

what happened to the good ol' keyboard?

just uninstall the controllers, detach them, reinstall them where you want.

2 MS Sidewinder Gamepads (the gameport version, both of them), a dance mat using the DirectPad Pro drivers, and a Shock2USB PSX to USB converter

The keyboard is still usefule for some games but for others, I just need my controller.

I have tried uninstalling drivers, detaching the controllers, reinstlalling drivers, and even reinstalling Windows (It was a mess anyways ) And it (the PSX -> USB controller) still refuses to become player one. This is ireally frustrating.

You have a similar setup than me but it still doesn't work. Oh well, I might find some program off the internet one day that can do this.
