converting tapes to CD
my dad has a bunch of old tapes (some are 8-tracks he copied onto tapes cuz the 8-tracks were going bad) that he wants to convert to CD's so the sound doesn't degrade nemore than it already has. I know I need a program to do this for me, and I was wondering if ne of u could point out a program to me that does this (preferably freeware)¿ thx!

No problem. It should be easy to record. I just pressed the record button and a window poped up saying from which source to record from (I think it should be Line in). then I played the tape and it recorded it fine. i never had any problems.
There is also a quick record button (It is below the records button) that when you click on it,it record right a away ( no dialog boxes). I forget which directory it records to though. I think its in My Documents or something... Last edited by Snake785; February 3rd, 2002 at 02:17. |

Don't forget to buy a cable called "RCA to Mini" that will let you connect your stereo's (or tape deck's) line out to the ports on your sound card.

you could just use some of the Rippers & Encoders in the audio section in download.com
specially the ones that "Record any sound that your sound card plays"... there is also a site called sofseek.com well give it a try

Its better to use a proper wave editor for this if you want to improve the sound quality.
I use cool edit pro as it allows you to record the noise at the start of the tapes just before the music comes in and then highlight it. Once you do this you can run the noise reduction on that piece off hiss and get a noise profile which will be the same all the way through the tape and then run noise reduction on it.This will remove all the hiss and background noise off the piece you high lighted then use the same profile on the rest of the tape. This can improve the quality a lot,I'm sure you can get a 30day trial of cool edit. |
