Hmm... I assume you've already tried restarting the client.

Are you behind a firewall?

nm. I found the answer.

The problem has to do specifically with core14. It's supposed to be in non-circulated beta status and not available to the general public.

The location for the 'work' folder and 'queue.dat' are stored in a different location than the one I mentioned previously: (obviously I don't have the GPU client )

XP - C:\Documents and Settings\<your_windows_username>\Application Data\Folding@home-gpu\

Vista - C:\Users\<your_windows_username>\AppData\Roaming\F olding@home-gpu\

So just go to the proper directory location and delete 'queue.dat' and you should be good to go. After restarting the client, make sure it uses core11. If it downloads another core14, just shutdown the client and delete 'queue.dat' again.

I still can't get it to work properly. :S I've tried deleting 'queue.dat' and 'work' folder as masta.g said. Is there another way of getting this ****ing core?

If the machines have battery backup, FAH can be configured to pause the current WU while on battery power until electricity has been restored.
Our lab has our own UPS's in our racks along with the IBM building's UPSs, so its not quite the power I'm worried about. Plus on top of that the building is right next to the powerlines.

Partly its my own lack of faith in putting software labelled as beta on infrastructure machines. Also, the SMP client won't be working in 6months as specified in the FAQ, so its not a set and forget solution, which is what I need.

In any case, what I'm doing now is manual SMP and it seems to be fine

Does that mean that when you finish it'll be 8000 points added?

No, it was worth 1680 points. But that still would have moved me into second. Not now though.

Also, we're closing in on the top 10,000...

There's always the last resort of uninstall - reinstall.

Make sure you run the SMP client if you have a multicore as the regular one takes ages to do even 1%.

I don't have multi-core here so I think I'm stuck with regular one. As soon as I'm back to my previous PC I'll try to reinstall F@H and then run SMP client.

Was that PC still trying to download core14? I'd still recommend using the GPU client as it's faster/easier. The CPU SMP client is a bit of a pain to set up for the first time. Also, shutting down the SMP core while it's processing usually causes the WU to be lost. Blackouts are especially annoying.

I suppose one of these days I should make an in-depth guide. Until then, there's always this one.

The CPU clients don't seem worth it. They take forever to get anything done. Or is it just me?
