Little update from my side.

I came across an old 8800GT gathering dust at my little brothers place. It had no cooler mounted on it. I asked him, if he still needed it and he said, he didn't got it to work and was thinking of throwing it into the bin.

So I took the old cooler of my 9800GTX and mounted it on the 8800GT, it fits perfectly. Now came the interesting part. My mainboard only got one PCIe 16x Slot, but three additional PCIe 1x slots. Theoretically, a 16x card is backwards compatible, and runs in a 1x slot, when folding without much performance impact.
So how do you get a 16x card into a 1x slot without cutting on one of them? Easy way: Take a 1x riser cable and cut open the end of it's slot.

Guess what? It truly works. Cost me some serious efforts and three days to get all of it crammed into my case and another two days of fiiddling around with drivers and so on, but now they're both singing along now in harmony.

Only problem is some serious performance hit on the 8800GT when running both of them simultaneous. When the 9800GTX is idle, the 8800GT puts out it's normal 4.5kPPD, when run together, it drops down to about 2,8kPPD.
(No PSU-issue, both are perfectly stable, always reaching 100% on every job.)

Read about it on the folding forums now, that running cards with different shader-counts gives sub-par performance. (128 on GTX vs. 112 on GT)

Hey, but maybe I'll get that sorted out, too in near future.
I think of switching my 9800GTX for a second 8800GT or 9800GT or flashing my 9800GTX with a modified BIOS, putting 16 of it's shaders to sleep. Time will show.

98 more positions to go to reach the top 1000; come on people!

indeed, because we're still at "98 more to go", seems we're stalling. :/

*edit* seems it took a while to update, we're at 1069 now.

I've been slacking off on this...mainly because summer is usually the time for me to get caught up on other things

Not to mention is gets ridiculously hot if I start folding...my chair last night was a big pile of sweat by the time I went to bed

I noticed when I catched up on your score a tiny bit as of late, but, it would take another few months for me to reach that (and only if you'd completely stop running it, which is hopefully not the case )

I have completely stopped running for the last month

And when you're sitting in a room with a dinky little window as your only source of ventilation with a computer that pumps out more heat then your furnace... Plus, I'm only wearing my boxers while in my room during the summer, so sweat just goes off onto the chair

I started folding last night to put my GTX 285 through its paces. It's running at a surprisingly cool 59C with 65% fan speed under full load, at stock speeds. I completed about 3 Big WUs overnight. Let's see how far this gets us/me.
