I used to get that kind of sound from my 7950GT and still get something similar every once in a while using my 9600GT. (even when playing normal games)

If you want tho you can reduce how much power of your card it uses, isn't it? (I personally put it somewhere around 70%)

I highly doubt it currently uses the full power of my card considering it's running cooler than it is after running stressfull games at max settings.

I also don't get this strange high-pitched ringing on any games...first time I heard it was with this...and even there I don't hear it every time...at the moment for instance it's silent...all I hear is the normal fan...

my conclusion is that it is the fan not able to perform properly due to the clients varying stress levels

I have to be right cause the only thing different in Phil' s and Dax 's cards is water cooling and fan

Well, that could be because it doesn't use the full card, only one specific (or a few) part of it, so the card as a whole doesn't get hot, but one part of it is highly stressed. (tho I really don't know for sure, not exactly my area of expertise at all)

I'm quite certain that folding@home won't be using the memory extensively on your GPUs. Maybe its stressing the core itself a lot.

I see the graphic card is used in such a way that it gets very uncomfortable

this client works in quiet a genius way but still is sorta bad if the card gets uncomfortable

I don't think it's working all that hard...less than a stressfull game as I said.

My laptop has the SMP client installed and it rakes in ~1350 PPD. Is yours dual core?

Were progressing pretty fast. It would be funny if each new member had to contribute one work unit upon signing up before posting. mandatory folding

A good idea to be sure. It'd keep noobz and pirates from registering just to ask a stupid question.

I'm sure the FAH forum would be really peeved at the enormous influx of noobz though...

Oh yeah, as far as the high-pitched noise goes, I have a solution. (maybe)

Under an older driver set I would get high-pitched noises in games like Oblivion, Bioshock, and Crysis. I am now running the 182.46 drivers and there is no more noise. I don't know if some driver power management settings were changed that were specific to my card or what. I noticed this a little while ago when I tried benchmarking some new ingame config settings in Oblivion.
