How to enable 720p on YouTube
Found something kool on web and would like to share it with you guys! First of all, the video has to be 720p when it was made before uploading onto YouTube. So not all video can be view in 720p Just add &fmt=22 to the end of the YouTube link to enabled it.Sample: Regular: YouTube - Where the Hell is Matt? (2008) 1280x720: YouTube - Where the Hell is Matt? (2008) (use full screen view) Clicking the "watch in high quality" link won't show 720p .***Update***: Youtube now have the "watch in HD" option! Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hh0TKdTaLto

"Higher quality" can't compared to 720p xD. I actually found out that "22" today... I've been known about 18 and 6 for quite sometime. But most YT videos( if not all) works with 18 and 6 but 22 is a different story.

what sucks is that we have to type this stuff ourselves, when youtube should just have a link directly to the high-quality videos. btw, that video about the guy dancing around the world was funny.

A bit offtopic: but another thing Youtube should do is allow more than 10 minute videos[I know certain accounts can post longer videos, but if you were to make a new account, say today, you wouldn't be able to]. It's ridiculous.

GreaseMonkey. There are better video hosters that dont limit your videos running time at all. Megavideo for example. 90 minutes videos arent an uncommon thing on it (such as fulllength episodes), not to mention higher quality.

The old threads, sure. Google rolled many more updates to its services than people seem to have noticed.

fmt22 > 'high quality' > normal someone mentioned that youtube widened the width to 960 pixels. but 720p == 1280x720, so the width should be '1280' if you want full 720p high-def. anyways, i hope they organize things in the future. because sometimes the fmt22 trick doesn't work, and sometimes the fmt18 messes up the video.

Bump? First of all, YouTube seems to have replaced the "watch in high quality" link with "watch in HD" links where available. That wasn't there a while ago, so this change must have been made very recently. Secondly, this 720p isn't true 720p, or at least it doesn't look like it. I've seen other video sites claim the same thing. It's definitely higher than the high quality option though. Normal quality looks unwatchable (I always felt this way, and it's why I never used YouTube before). To point this out, here are links to a video I recently made. It was recorded in 1280x720, so it's 720p HD (if you have your YouTube account options set to override the quality options, this may not show the differences for you). Normal quality. YouTube - Crysis Warhead Massive Attack High quality YouTube - Crysis Warhead Massive Attack HD quality YouTube - Crysis Warhead Massive Attack There's definitely differences between each one. Look at the text in high quality versus HD quality. Still, the supposed 720p doesn't look as good as the one I uploaded. You may be saying "it's due to compression". It did lose quality during compression, yes, but the compressed version I uploaded is noticeably clearer than the HD quality version YouTube is showing. The HD quality version still has those JPEG like boxes from compression, so I assume YouTube isn't using true 720p, or if it is really that size, there's still some quality loss going on somewhere for some reason (so it doesn't look 720p). It's still a nice upgrade though, as you can see the difference, but I wouldn't consider it true 720p just yet. The video Kaizen linked to even had this in the description, so I do wonder. Quote:
