Exclamation DirectX

I have looked on the web for awhile and I can't seem to find a way to revert my directX setting back to version 7 without reinstalling. I know everyone says they have no trouble running emus with DirectX8 but I can't get any of my Direct3d plugins to work and these plugins always worked before when I was using version 7. I just don't want to remove and reinstall directX and I hope there is some way to change it.

1) There's a program entitled (if memory serves) "Direct X Buster" (sometimes titled dxbuster) that was written by a German programmer. I haven't a link, but it used to work well in removing DX7.

2) The files that make up DX7 are stored within the executable in compressed format. Though MS might have changed the format, you used to be able to extract them with WinZip, place them in a temp folder, then overwriting the files in your windows/system folder with those from temp.

Quite honestly I wouldn't trust either method, since a simple reformat would most likely leave everything in a much more stable state. Use either of the above at your own risk.

You might also want to check out this site.

You can't install an older DX over a newer one, the installer won't allow you...

Very sound advice Neojag. Be very careful when "messing" w/your registry files. One slip and you'll be reinstalling your OS. Best of luck.
sincerely,
