Well I have a dual boot setup on my main machine. Win2K SP2 for everything that I can get to run on it and WinMe for Black and White

My older K6 has Win2K only. Due to contractual reason my laptop has Win98SE.

Jesus, come on people, there's no need to keep on making polls left and right...

If this continues, I'll request the poll feature be disabled.

Win 98 First Edition here.
CD, lighten up. All I mean is that this Poll thing is like a new toy for the board members and you know what happens when a new toy is tired of. Give it time and it will subside. "This, too, shall pass."

Are you sure? Seems like, if anything, people keep starting new ones DESPITE words to the contrary. Considering every other thread or so in off-topic is a poll, that's definitely getting in the territory of an abused feature.

Precisely my point.

It was always a factor considered when Polls were enabled, and despite many times being mentioned, people aren't slowing it down a little.

I don't mind polls at all, but when it's one after another, especially multiple ones by the same user, that's treading into the 'abuse zone'.

Anyway, since I'm not a 'real' moderator of this board, all of this is just an observation..feel free to reject it at any time..

>But I using ram 256 MB sure it not supported.
I've run Win98FE and 256 megs of RAM with no problems (well, outside of the problems one normally has with Win9x). Win98 supports 256 MB of RAM, it just has a problem with greater than 512 due to a bug in the memory management system that uses all your space for disk caching. This can be worked around by adding two statements to your system.ini file:

MinFileCache=1024
MaxFileCache=131072 (For 512, recalculate for other mem sizes. This should be 25% of the total memory you have)

For more info check out www.betanews.com, they had a feature on it a few weeks ago. Note that playing with these settings can be useful for even those with lower amounts of RAM, as Win98's defaults are more geared to computers of a few years ago (namely, those with 16 to 32 megs of RAM).

>Any OS support it???
Of course, it's always dependant on proper configuration.
UNIX-variants (Solaris, Linux, AUX), BeOS, QNX, Win NT 4 and higher (don't know about lower versions), Windows 2000...

We're not attacking this specific poll but rather the trend of polls over and over again. Gets really old really fast.

Nope, it should work just fine. That is, if it can be said that Windows ever works "fine"

Of course, you might want to think about adding the two system.ini statements even if you have 256 MB, as (in my case at least) I've found it gives me a bit more physical ram to use and slightly less swapping.

The section entitled [VCache]. If it doesn't exist, you'll have to add it manually. The article I was thinking of can be found here http://www.betanews.com/article.php3?sid=989285336

I am not rejcting your suggestion CD. In fact I, for one, value the advice you've given. I just think that after a while it will die down. But perhas you and Ryos are right and the Admins should discuss this.
sincerely,
