Which web browser is the best?

Recently, Internet Explorer's monopoly in web browsing software was broken by the emergence of Mozilla Firefox which offers better speed, security and features several add-ons and extra features. Another web browser, Safari, has recently issued a new version compatible with Windows XP. Yet another browser Opera is also gaining popularity. With up-sides and down-sides to all of these, can someone help me to decide which browser to keep and which to abandon!

Opera = Best out of the Box non IE browser.

Avant = Best out of the Box IE based browser (surpasses Opera in all but speed in my opinion).

FireFox = Best after downloading a ton of extensions and modding it to get it just the way you like it.

All 3 of them are worthy of being on a PC I would say...after that it's your choice which one you mainly use and which one you keep as a backup...

I used Avant for about a year and a half, but recently with FireFox 3.0 I decided to give FF another try and after adding about 50 extensions have got it to be on equal terms with Avant featurewise if not slightly better than it. Resource use is a lot lower on FireFox aswell.

Doesn't having too many browsers on your OS cause conflict and instability? I heard this on several forums and websites

Well you would only run one browser at a time usually...your current main browser that is....I have about 10 browsers on my system and I don't think other than taking up a few MB each that they are having a negative affect on my system.

Why does Microsoft have to make each version of Explorer more buggier and annoying than the last! I ran Explorer 7 yesterday just to try it out, not a minute passed and pop-ups appeared asking me to install Windows Defender. Once I closed it, Firefox started to mess up. At random times, all the tabs would re-open in another window for some reason. And then Microsoft wonder why Explorer is loosing popularity. By the way, has anyone used Safari? How good is it? I expect Apple software to be pretty stable.

sorry for the multiple posts, Firefox was messing up cuz I installed the NoScript add-on. Think I should remove it

Yeah NoScript makes more damage than it helps...

Apple Software is stable....because nothing can run on it

By the way you should get the Mr Tech Toolkit extension for Firefox. With it you can disable the compatibility check FF does on extensions and therefore install older ones.
Although I would reenable that once I am done installing extensions (because it is actually a safety feature) and then instead use Mr Tech Toolkit to try and make all the old extensions compatible.
It's got some other nifty features aswell.

Whilst FireFox may be marginally faster it still has less to offer featurewise before you start adding extensions. Therefore It's still true.

FF 3 is pretty crap to be honest. Many add-ons don't work on it like my favorite torrent toolbar, though its good that Firefox allows me to backtrack to FF 2, this would never have been possible with Explorer, I once installed the Explorer 8.0 beta version on my previous OS, and found it highly unstable, couldn't step back to v7

IE8 can emulate IE7

Also I gave you the name of an extension which could try to make your toolbars and other extensions work for FF3.....

Firefox 3 is my favourite! Opera is really fast! though. I just wished I was able to get the in speech function to work. It's buggy for me over here.
