7zip because it compresses more.

RAR for integrity check (also the recovery volumes feature), reliable multipart archiving, and cool repair functions.

7z for the highest compression rates (even in nonsolid archiving mode).

Ultimately, regardless of the preferences of people, reliability-wise, RAR wins all the way. 7z is appreciated for its filesize-efficient compression (especially for downloads)

7zip is free, and has a native 64-bit version complete with shell integration. It's also small, and has no goofy agent nonsense. Compression is good, I've been re-compressing my old rars and getting a lot of space back.

I prefer 7zip for it's slightly higer compression...however it's only recently that I switched preference from WinRAR to 7zip.

Winrar because it has some nice options like multiple file archiving that can be used for zipping many roms at once. Though, I prefer using 7-zip compression.

7Zip, no need to purchase it before getting rid of those annoying messages. Then again, most of you probably don't have that problem.

rofl I got so used to using WinRAR that I was faster than those messages most of the time. Also if instead of opening the program every time you just use it's shell extension (in other words right-click extract files here or the like) to extract stuff then you don't even get them.

i like 7-zip better, HOWEVER, winrar is better at handeling unzipping.

i've downloaded a few "corrupt" files that 7-zip couldn't unzip.

then i got winrar, and checked the "ignore bad checksum" check-box, and it was able to unzip the files perfectly.

7-zip dosn't have an ignore bad checksum option, thats the only thing i don't like about it.

but i use 7-zip as my main program, and win-rar when i have to unzip a file with a corrupt checksum.

I also like that 7-zip is free, and also its a more light-weight program than winrar.

i hate the huge GUI winrar has...
i like my apps to have small light-weight GUI's with alot of features.

I thought that a lot of people are using it nowadays. Even if it isn't the primary compression method now, I'm sure it will pick up and become the number one compression method soon.

WinRAR since it's closer to being a standard.
