There's really no REAL information about Windows 7.

I think it's kind of like a rumor (though, I'm sure Microsoft is working on another OS).

Imf, your link is broken. Microsoft Gives Up on Vista

Definately not a rumor, just not sure about the actual screenshots' veracity. At the moment, it's nothing more than a Vista with new stuff. I really doubt they will deliver it next. That's what they say about everything. Neowin has a topic about it Neowin.net - Windows 7 (Seven) M1 post-install details leaked? .

And I, as a Longhorn enthusiast, am accepting the fate of collecting leaked builds that are just a (good) scrap and having disgust with the final product... :/ And of course, wait years for it's release.

if microsoft just released new versions of DirectX for XP then i would be happy.

XP does all you need, and its fast.

Only problem with XP is that the desktop isn't very customizable, but its still better than having Vista's slow Aero desktop.
I don't want some damn OS that lags every time i'm browsing around, and also asks me a million questions b4 i do anything!

Guys!

I found out this incredible news! I know this is crazy.. but.. Microsoft is working on another version of Windows.

I know, insane. They've never done this before, so I am eager to see how it goes. I'm sure the finished product will be 100% absolutely just like what I've read about. Why wouldn't it be?

Where did you read about it? "Microsoft Gives Up On Vista" doesn't reveal the secrets lying around Win7.

Microsoft's problem is that they left Windows XP in the market for too long before releasing Vista (which isn't as bad as people make out).

The gap between XP's release and Vista is the longest time they have ever gone without releasing an operating system at six years, they've given Windows XP too long a time to become embedded and most of the flaws have become ironed out or gotten used to.

I wonder if Vista would be getting so much flak if Microsoft had released a bastard child upgrade of XP onto the market to fill the gap, just like they did with releasing Windows ME (which was basically just Windows 98 3rd Edition).

windows ME was another failed OS, just like vista.

it has nothing to do with the time between their releases; all that matters is if its a good OS or not. And vista is a horrible OS.
Its slow, its confusing, it has alot of compatibility problems, and it has various other problems.

Sorry but a large part of it is down to timing.

Many people had trouble with Windows ME, so when XP finally hit the market people embraced it and overlooked the flaws that it had.

Personally I had more trouble when first switching to Windows XP than I did with ME, such as XP's hatred of USB modems (something that didn't work correctly until XP service pack 1 came out).

Vista is certainly a good operating system that is of course not without its flaws (such as the god awful Explorer User Interface) but with Windows 7, Microsoft aren't going to make the same mistake they did with the time between XP and Vista.

in the month i had vista, there was nothing "good" about it.
it was so bad, i deleted my vista partition.

most people agree that Vista is one of Microsoft's worst OS's. If you think its a good OS, then you're the minority.

that would be the sensible thing to do; but microsoft is one of the greediest corporations out there, so i doubt they'll give out a free upgrade.
if they actually cared about the customers, then they wouldn't have made DirectX 10 vista exclusive.

I am getting Vista, for 64-bit sake, but if windows 7 or whatever is to fix Vista, then I believe there should be at least a discount on upgrading.

there might be a discount.

anyways, if you still havn't gotten Vista x64, then get the 32 bit build.
the x64 build is even less compatible than the 32bit one.
