uhh the pirate will not have the activation code on screen.....to activate vista...you need a internet connection. and microsoft can tell if the OS is legit or not by installing updates

I activated it by phone method though because I can't activate it when I click the "Activate Now" key

Code? If you meant the product key, it didn't ask me for it. Instead, the machine asked for a long string of numbers shown in the screen.

thats your activation code. microsoft matches it with previously activated codes.
OEM and Retail codes are different by the way

Mine is OEM for that computer. Its been previously activated by that computer before I reformatted it.

Ah. Nvm. As long as I don't have to pay a single cent. I'm fine with it. I'm cheap :P

I've been beaten to the answer and yes the others are completely correct in what they say.

You're lucky to have gotten a toll free number to call with, I was charged at national rate when I wanted to reactivate after making a dual-boot.
